Located on the border of Kansas and Missouri, Kansas City has an urban population of about 588,411, according to a 2004 estimate. It’s metropolitan area, however, which covers both sides of the state line, is home to about 1,908,354 residents.
Real estate prices in the city have increased moderately in the past few years, with growth of 4.8% in 2005. At $156,500, the median cost of a home in the Kansas City metro area is higher than the surrounding areas, but lower than the national average.
