  • Phoenix, Arizona - Real Estate

The city of Phoenix is county seat of Maricopa County, as well as capital and largest settlement in the U.S. state of Arizona. The city itself has a population of 1,416,055, according to the 2000 census, although it is estimated to have grown significantly in population since then. The metropolitan region, meanwhile, had 3,251,876 residents in 2000, with current population estimates ranging around 3,790,000.

Real estate prices in the area have skyrocketed in the past few years, with 48.9% growth in 2005 alone, bringing the median cost of a single family dwelling to $268,400.

This is well above the U.S. national average, making Phoenix a tough nut to crack for first time homebuyers and low income families. There are still a few comparitively reasonable bargains to be found in the city, however, in the form of foreclosures and discount property listings.
