Sacramento is the capital and fifth largest city of California, as well as county seat of Sacramento County. The city proper has a population of 454,330, according to a 2004 estimate, with 2,016,702 people residing in its greater metropolitan area.
Like most of California, Sacramento has a very hot real estate market, with prices increasing considerably over the past few years. The median cost of a single family dwelling rose to $380,900, or nearly double the national average, at the end of 2005.
